Origin and general information on Pomeranians
The Pomeranian is believed to have descended from wolf-spitz type dogs which at some early period migrated to Pomerania from the north of Russia and Siberia.Sharing the same ancestors with the other arctic breeds such as the Samoyed and Keeshond.

These early spitz type dogs were used to work as guard and sledge animals, however the smallest were kept as companions. At this stage of development, the breed weighed 30 lbs and were colored white, black or cream.

Pomeranians were established as a breed in the eighteenth century after they drew the interest of the English monarchy.

Upon her marriage to King George 111, Queen Charlotte brought large white Pomeranians to England in 1761.However it was not until Queen Victoria's reign that the Pomeranian became one of the most popular toy breeds. The 9 to 13.6 kg. dogs of Queen Charlotte's time now weighed 5.5.kg.Queen Victoria further improved the breed after she imported smaller Pomeranians of different colors from various European countries.

Temperament
The Pomeranian is a delightful family member, extrovert, lively and very , very intelligent . Compensating for his diminutive size with a high intelligence and incredible energy the Pomeranian is quick and eager to learn and excels in any type of obedience training. He has not forgotten his spitz heritage and can be very loyal and protective .Training is recommended to commence at 8 to 10 weeks, but lessons should be kept very short.but repeated often.Extensive use of praise will make the lessons a fun time for dog and owner. Owing to the diminutive size and high energy level size the Pomeranian is not recommended for families with young children.Pomeranians are suitable for flat dwellers who are prepared to exercise their dog on a regular basis and also make loyal and intelligent companions for the elderly.

General Care & Grooming
Puppies should be groomed from an early age so they learn to welcome all the attention. The double coat of the Pomeranian does not require as much attention as some of the other coated breeds but nevertheless he does require regular grooming,at least 2 or 3 times a week if not daily. When you stroke or pat your Pomeranian stroke the coat from the tail to the head as this will raise the dense coat. Teach your baby from a young age to accept and enjoy being groomed.Occasional bathing is recommended with a shampoo formulated for dogs.As dogs have a different ph to humans, for best results do not use your own shampoo.Trimming of hair around the anus for cleanliness is recommended.Toe nails should be kept as short as possible. Teeth should be kept clean, any retained baby teeth should be removed by your vet. Raw chicken necks or wings may be feed on a regular basis to help keep teeth clean.

DO NOT FEED COOKED CHICKEN BONES TO POMERANIANS.
