|
The West Highland White Terrier or the "Westie" as he is affectionately known came to the fore in 1907 when the Westies were shown at Crufts in the U.K. The Westie worked in packs chasing smallgame over the rooks and crannies of the Scottish Highlands.
The Westie today is a hardy, outgoing little dog who loves being with you, enjoys a good brisk walks on the lead. He is a happy little chap, always inquisitive, full of fun and mischief.
He enjoys a ride in the car and being part of the family.
He is neat and compact, with piercing dark eyes, black nose, small pricked ears, with a white harsh coat and a soft undercoat.
Suitable for a small garden, is this compact small terrier. Long lived between twelve and eighteen years. |

Grooming: Washing your Westie can cause skin problems by washing out its natural oils. When the coat gets muddy, allow to dry and the dirt brushes out.To whiten the coat, just brush in some calcium-carbonate powder and then brush out. Comb and brush at least once a week. Westies do not moult like other breeds, therefore their coats need to be trimmed (stripped) at least twice a year.
Size: The ideal height is 28cm (11") and weight about 8.2kg (18lbs).
